Whats Magic got to say about the NCAA Womens Final Four?
Apr 6, 2024
Magic Johnson chimed in about last night's Iowa 71-69 win over UConn which has propelled Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes back to the national title game.
Johnson who has proven over the years to be a huge supporter of women’s basketball usually focuses most of his comments on Clark, but after watching last night's game he also had high praise for Hannah Stuelke.
and shared his thoughts on Caitlin Clark
"What a game!! Normally we would all be talking about Caitlin Clark, but Iowa prevailed with a strong team effort led by Hannah Stuelke’s 23 points," he said on social media. "Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff for advancing to their 2nd straight National Championship appearance!"
Johnson, who won 5 rings with the Los Angeles Lakers normally centers his comments around a ridiculous Caitlin Clark performance. Here’s what he said early in the year about Clark.
“Congratulations to Caitlin Clark for reaching another milestone, passing Pete Maravich to set the all-time NCAA scoring record!” Magic Johnson posted on X. “Both Caitlin and Pistol Pete changed the game forever and favor each other in how they play. They way they combine elite scoring ability with ball-handling and passing is unlike any other! I'm looking forward to seeing her greatness on display as we head into March Madness.”
As for Clark, she scored 21 points in the win over UConn and had what can best be described as an average game.
During ESPN’s alternative broadcast, former WNBA geat Sue Bird discussed who should go number one in the upcoming WNBA Draft.
"I think you have to take Caitlin for one reason," Bird said. "You can't go wrong with choosing either one. The fan energy behind Caitlin is going to be a game-changer for a WNBA franchise. For that reason, right now, you have to take her. From a basketball standpoint, I can make an argument for Paige."
THE UNDERRATED LINE
As for Birds comments, I believe they are spot on and I would be shocked if Clark doesn’t go number one in the WNBA draft.
As for Magic Johnson, he continues to be unlike many former professional basketball players as the overwhelming majority of his comments about the game are positive.
