DIGGS ASKED TO BE TRADED, BUFFALO REFUSED TO TRADE HIM TO THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Wait, what, were there no NFC teams willing to trade for Stefon Diggs?

Wait, what, were there no NFC teams willing to trade for Stefon Diggs? Are you telling me Buffalo, there were no NFC teams willing to acquire a 100-reception, 1,000-yard receiving wide receiver?
As we sit here some 48 hours removed from the Stefon Diggs trade to the Houston Texans, much of what went down behind the scenes of the deal has come to light.
First, Diggs did indeed request a trade which of course was not surprising considering some of the antics that occurred with Diggs last season, from being asked to leave practice to his behavior on the sidelines which included a deep conversation with head coach Sean McDermott which was of course caught on tape.
According to his new Texans teammate, Joe Mixon, Diggs “asked” to leave the Bills.
Second, Once the team decided to trade Diggs, apparently the Kansas City Chiefs ended up on the list. According to a report from Chris Simms of NBC, the Bills refused to trade Diggs to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Allegedly Buffalo allowed Stefon Diggs to "seek a trade from anybody in the league except the Chiefs" before a deal came together with the Texans.
And finally, as part of the deal with the Texans, GM Nick Caserio negotiated a contract restructuring with Diggs which was yet another brilliant move by arguably one of the hottest GMs in the game.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Texans "wiped out" the final three years of Diggs' contract, making him a free agent after the 2024 season.
"As part of the Buffalo-Houston trade, the Texans wiped out the final three years on Diggs’ contract, giving him the ability to become a free agent after this season, league sources tell ESPN," Schefter said.
"The Texans also took the $3.5 million guaranteed to Diggs next season and moved up into this season, giving him a raise and assuring him of $22.52 million in guaranteed money in 2024."
Essentially this means Diggs will become a free agent at the end of the 2024 season.
THE UNDERRATED LINE
For the Bills to agree to trade Diggs is one thing, but they should have excluded the Texans and several other top AFC teams from his list. The reality is there were plenty of NFC teams willing to acquire a 100-reception, 1,000-yard receiving wide receiver.
As for the Texans, they did the right thing by restructuring Diggs’s contract, this will give them the flexibility they need to move on from Stefon if things don’t work out.
